Damaged or missing teeth can affect the appearance of your smile, lead to dental misalignment, TMJ disorder, further tooth loss, and other conditions. To repair your smile and protect your dental health, Dr. Sujata Basawaraj offers dental crowns and bridges at her practice in The Colony. About Dental Crowns
A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers a tooth after it has been treated for damage or decay. Crowns serve a number of functions, including:
Protecting a weakened tooth
Reinforcing a cracked tooth
Covering a cavity that is too large for a filling
Restoring a tooth following a root canal procedure
Covering a misshapen or worn tooth
Restoring a dental implant to replace a single missing tooth.
Bridges, also called partial dentures, are designed to replace one or more consecutive missing teeth. They can be supported either by adjacent dental crowns or dental implants.
Creating and Placing Dental Crowns and Bridges
Creating and placing custom crowns and bridges begins with any necessary tooth treatments like a root canal, filling, or extraction. Once the tooth is prepared (or, in some cases, once the gums have healed), your dentist will take a mold of your gums and any surrounding teeth. This mold will be sent to our trusted offsite lab, where skilled technicians will use it to create a custom restoration that fits your smile and looks natural among your existing teeth. Creating the restorations usually takes about two to three weeks. In the meantime, you may be provided with a temporary restoration. If you choose traditional implant-supported restorations, you will undergo two surgeries and three to six months of healing time before your restorations are placed. We also offer All-on-4® implants, which can be placed and restored in a single appointment. Dr. Basawaraj will help you decide which treatment is best for your needs.
At Main Dentistry, we partner with a top-notch dental lab, known throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area for their superior craftsmanship. Before sending your impressions to the lab, our dentist will help you choose the right type of restoration for your budget and restorative goals. Your options include:
Ceramic: Tooth-colored ceramic is typically the most popular material because it blends in with your smile and looks natural. The material also reflects light much like natural dental enamel.
Metal: Our metal crowns are very durable, and made of noble metals to help prevent allergic reactions.
Porcelain-fused-to-metal: These crowns offer the durability of metal restorations and the lifelike appearance of porcelain.
During your initial consultation, we will take plenty of time to discuss your options and help you choose the restoration and material that will help you achieve a beautiful, healthy, and functional smile.
